Matthew 16:13-20–This passage conveys a turning point in the disciples’ understanding of who Jesus is. Scott Sterner brings an important reminder that it is Jesus who builds the church and the power and truth of that fact applies to each of us.
Jeremiah 23:1-8–The blame for the exile of the people is placed upon both the shepherds (the leaders & rulers) and on the sheep (the people of the nation of Israel). But God promises a future time of regathering and restoration under the King who is called The Lord Our Righteousness.
Mark 14:53-72– As expected, those who were plotting to kill Jesus subjected the Lord to a rigged trial–one where the sentence was predetermined. No one except Jesus (and least of all Peter) expected those closest to Him to desert Him in His time of need.
Psalm 2 “Why do the nations conspire and the peoples plot in vain? Conspiracy theory? God says, “Yes, there is.” This psalm reveals that the world’s systems are united against God and His kingdom. But in the end, Jesus will reign.
Malachi 2:17-3:5 The Lord says He is tired of people asking, “Where is the God of justice?” He lets them know that the God of justice is soon coming in person. He is coming as a refiner’s fire to put things right. “But who can endure the day of His coming?”
